How to add a non-billable time to Jusnote?

What is a non-billable time?

With Jusnote, you can track the time for which your client will not be obligated to pay. This is a very useful tool for records that you want to add to the system, however, do not indicate them in the client's invoice as a fee-paying service. For instance, you have had a phone conversation that you added to Jusnote, but you don't want to charge for it. Also, tracking of the work performed, both billable and non-billable, provides you with insights into the effectiveness of your law firm and measures its profitability.
Unlike other systems, Jusnote is the only one that provides flexible management of non-billable time. Thus, you can both show it in the invoice to a client or completely hide it. Also, in one place (editing of the invoice), you can mark the time as both "billable" and "non-billable," and the system will automatically count the total amount of the invoice. Currently, such functions are not available in any other legal system - they either do not show non-billable time in an invoice at all or, conversely, always show it.

How to add a non-billable time?

Adding a non-billable time has the same process as a billable time.

The main difference from adding a billable time is that you need to select the "Non-billable time" checkbox as it's shown above. After entering all the information, tap on "Save".

Non-billable time in tables

You can find a non-billable time in the general "Activities" section and in a matter and a contact card. The table "Activities" has a special column named "Billing", the purpose of which is to illustrate whether the time is billable or not. In the case of a non-billable time, you’ll see a "Non-billable time" indicator.

If you need to view the total amount of non-billable time, use the filter and select "Billing" - "Non-billable time". Don't forget to apply filters.

Creating an invoice

After creating an invoice, by default, the non-billable time entries will not be indicated in the invoice.
This is done specifically because Jusnote’s mission is to help lawyers build a more profitable legal practice, and so all the basic actions are built around commercial time.
However, if you want, you can add a non-billable time to an invoice. Click on "Edit" after creating the invoice.

If you have a non-billable time in the matter, you’ll see a switch called "Non-billable time".

Click on the button to display all positions that are selected as "non-billable". Jusnote will refresh the "Time" table immediately and add the "Non-billed" column.

Next to non-billable activities, there will be a blue checkbox. Also, below the total amount that is written in bold, will be indicated the whole amount including the non-billable time. We won't show it in the invoice. This data is only used for information purposes for a lawyer or an accountant who makes the invoice.

To make time billable, just take the checkbox off near the needed activity. The system automatically recalculates the total amount of the invoice.

After editing the invoice, tap on "Save".

The invoice was successfully created!
